NCFRMI NEWS - National Assembly Subcommittee on IDPs Conducts Fact-Finding Visit to NCFRMI

The National Assembly subcommittee on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), led by Hon. Abdullahi B. Dabai, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on IDPs, conducted a fact-finding visit to the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI). The delegation, comprising 10 Honorable Members, visited the Commission to assess its operations, management, and staffing challenges.

During the session, the Federal Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of NCFRMI, Hon. Tijani Aliyu Ahmed, provided an in-depth briefing to the committee. He outlined the Commission’s priority plan, ongoing activities, progress made, and the setbacks encountered in the pursuit of durable solutions for displaced persons. Emphasizing a shift from palliative measures to skills development, Hon. Tijani stressed the importance of long-term solutions over temporary relief to achieve sustainable outcomes.

The delegation expressed their admiration for the breadth of NCFRMI’s projects and its steadfast adherence to the core mandate of the Commission. However, the committee raised key concerns, particularly in the areas of procurement regulations and financial expenditures. They advised that these areas require closer attention, and they requested that a comprehensive document addressing these issues be submitted ahead of their next meeting.

To support the committee’s review, Hon. Tijani provided copies of NCFRMI’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the 2023 Annual Report, and the Commission’s Establishment Act.

This fact-finding exercise marks a significant step in ensuring that NCFRMI continues to align its efforts with national policies and regulations while strengthening the impact of its work in supporting IDPs, refugees, and migrants across Nigeria.
