NCFRMI NEWS - NCFRMI Attends the 75th EXCOM Meeting in Geneva

The Honorable Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hon. Tijani Aliyu Ahmed, together with the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation, recently represented Nigeria at the 75th Executive Committee (EXCOM) meeting of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). This global event took place at the United Nations House in Geneva, Switzerland.

EXCOM is an annual high-level meeting where over 100 countries gather to assess the state of refugee protection and humanitarian efforts worldwide. This year’s event provided a platform for countries, including Nigeria, to present updates on their refugee activities, highlighting their achievements, ongoing challenges, and future strategies.

During the meeting, Nigeria shared its efforts in supporting refugees, asylum seekers, migrants, and internally displaced persons (IDPs). The Honorable Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary outlined Nigeria's progress in implementing humanitarian programs aimed at alleviating the suffering of displaced populations.

Hon. Tijani Aliyu Ahmed reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to improving the welfare of refugees and migrants, emphasizing the importance of partnerships with international organizations to overcome the country’s challenges. He stressed the need for increased support to strengthen the country's humanitarian response, as the global refugee crisis continues to grow.

The 75th EXCOM meeting allowed Nigeria to engage in meaningful discussions with other nations and stakeholders, sharing best practices and exploring innovative solutions to refugee and humanitarian issues. The meeting underscored the importance of global solidarity and cooperation in addressing the complex issues surrounding displacement.

Through this participation, Nigeria reaffirms its dedication to addressing the challenges faced by displaced persons and strengthening its role in the international humanitarian landscape.
